Love: Fate or Choice?
Is love spun by the threads of destiny, or is it a tapestry we weave with our own hands?
A few years ago, my sister asked me to write a poem for her and her fiancé when they were getting married, so I wrote a poem called “My Fate”. Since then, I’ve been asked to read it at a number of weddings. I really love the concept of love being a fate that we are unable to control as certain as the sun burning.
MY FATE
Does the sun promise to shine?
No, but it will,
even behind the darkest clouds, it will.
And no promise
will make it shine longer or brighter,
for that is its fate,
to burn until it can burn no more.
So, to love you is not my promise,
it is my fate,
to burn until I can burn no more.

I was curious what my friends and fans thought about this - the concept of love as fate or choice. Below is what they had to say, although there were quite a few write-ins who believed it to be both.
Whether fated or chosen, there’s magic in watching love take root and grow. A promise to one another, an engagement, the start of a new chapter - a moment that will be etched in a couple’s memories forever. And of course, there’s the ring. A symbol of that commitment, representing not just the love between two people but also the promise of a future filled with adventure, growth, maybe children, and hopefully real happiness.
Over years of writing, I’ve become enamored with the idea of love as a symbol. While writing my book LVOE. I was stuck with an idea. Why not fuse love poetry with an actual timeless symbol of love - the ring? I chose to partner with Do Amore, the world leader in ethical and sustainable diamonds, to design a collection of engagement rings and wedding bands inspired by my favorite love poems. Each piece is crafted to symbolize the everlasting bond of true love.
My hope is that this engagement collection will not only serve as a beautiful reminder of love’s enduring power but also inspire couples to embark on their own poetic journeys together. So whether you see love as fate or choice, please take a moment to explore my engagement ring collection with Do Amore—a celebration of love’s poetry and purpose.

I believe romantic love happens by fate but it is developed by choice.
